Great Coxwell
My clients have a large wraparound garden and a love of plants and design but the space needed definition and direction. Though currently on hold, you can see the vision through the 3D concept images.
The existing garden felt quite exposed and too connected to the car parking area at the front of the house. The plot had generous space for planting and there were a large number of existing trees, shrubs and herbaceous perennials to keep. Though lovely to have a wraparound garden to hug the house, this left the clients feeling exposed and overlooked on a number of sides and all the extra space meant it was harder to feel like their were zones or spaces to move through. Some separation by usage was needed.
A low clipped ilex hedge combined with the use of pleached malus trees, the front garden becomes a separate room and frames the view into the new meadow garden. The meadow garden built on a lot of the ideas the clients had already implemented. This makes for a more sympathetic revision rather than a rip-out-and-replace overhaul.
