My clients' needed to transform their garden into a useable, private space fit for entertaining, sunbathing and relaxing.
With a keen eye for design and a love of entertaining, my clients wanted something that was more in keeping with their beautiful house whilst also addressing a number of issues on site.
The garden was set back from their house and accessed via a long, narrow path squeezed between their two neighbours. They were overlooked on all sides due to the built up surroundings and the fact that the main seating area was the highest point of the garden and therefore felt quite exposed. The whole garden sloped back towards the house and, being in a conservation area and a flood risk zone, this added to the many challenges to address.
The design focused on the simple but beautiful repetition of herringbone pavers, gravel and sandstone to draw you up the garden path and keep your eyes always looking forward. This was punctuated by beautiful planting to fit a sunny site. We used vertical dimensions of both planting and strategically-placed pergolas to add interest, definition and privacy.
My clients were keen to do a lot of the work themselves and took on the challenge of levelling out the garden by hand (hats off to them)!
